Do Neodymium Magnets Rust?

Causes of Rust Spots in NdFeB Magnets:

Under normal circumstances, the surface of the magnet has a layer of electroplating (of course, there are also NdFeB magnets that require no electroplating, some magnets for mineral processing machines do not need electroplating, and the appearance is similar to ferrite), and there is no rust at this time The existence of rust spots generally appears because it has been in an environment with relatively high humidity, and the air circulation in the working environment is very poor. What needs to be reminded friends is that the magnet should be placed in those places with good ventilation effect and certain where the temperature difference changes.

In addition, the time for electroplating is not enough, and the poor electroplating of magnet manufacturers is also one of the reasons, which belongs to the problem of process flow.

In addition, if the packaging seal of the strong magnet is damaged, it will also oxidize the strong magnet, resulting in rust spots.

Another important point is that the dirt on the surface of the magnet is not cleaned well before electroplating, which is also one of the reasons for the appearance of rust spots.

The ground NdFeB magnet will rust. The way to prevent rust is to avoid the surface from being exposed to water and air. Either simply put it in water (better with alkaline, and the carbon dioxide will be suppressed) or dry and seal it immediately (better with oil) After grinding, it is recommended to dry it in an ultrasonic dryer immediately to reduce rust .

NdFeB powerful magnets should avoid the following storage methods:

1.In places with excessive humidity and poor air circulation.

2.When the temperature difference changes greatly, even products that pass the salt spray test may produce rust spots if they are stored in 3.a harsh environment for a long time.

4.If there is no coating on the surface, you can choose to use a desiccant or a vapor phase rust inhibitor, and store it in a sealed package.

Electroplated magnet products should not be placed in a place with high humidity for a long time, but should be placed in a cool and dry place.
