The magnetic circuit of a moving coil driver asks for one thing: a strong, steady axial field across a small gap where the voice coil sits. A sintered ferrite ring, Y30 or Y30BH class, axially magnetized and paired with the driver's steel top plate and back plate, delivers that field at a material cost no other magnet family can touch. Neodymium (NdFeB) would raise the flux and shrink the magnet, and in premium compact drivers it does - but for the standard driver lines that move in millions of units, ferrite wins the total cost calculation every time, and it does not rust, which keeps the assembly line free of plating and the finished speaker free of corrosion claims.

Heat resistance is one of the clearest strengths of sintered ferrite in loudspeaker service. A high power driver can push 100 watts or more through the voice coil, and much of that heat soaks into the magnet during a long set. Near the voice coil, temperatures of 150 to 200 degrees Celsius are routine for ferrite, and the sintered ceramic has no Curie problem anywhere near that range. A neodymium (NdFeB) magnet in the same position would need a high temperature grade plus a coating, which removes most of its cost advantage.

One grade family covers the full driver range, from tweeters to PA woofers. Outer diameters in our production run from 40 to 220 millimeters, center holes from 8 to 75 millimeters sized to the pole piece, and ring heights from 5 to 25 millimeters. Rings are axially magnetized. On every new driver drawing, the magnetic circuit is the first item our engineers review: the top plate diameter, the gap width required by the voice coil and the back plate thickness determine how much of the ring's flux actually reaches the gap.

Gap field quality depends on more than outer diameter and height. Flatness of the working faces, concentricity between the ring and the center hole, and flux consistency from ring to ring all shape how the finished driver performs. Low flux shifts driver sensitivity, and a spread within a batch can leave the two speakers of a pair sounding different. To prevent this, magnetic moment is tested on a sample basis from every firing batch, in addition to dimensional inspection, so flux drift is caught at the batch level before rings reach your assembly line.

Every quotation from us states three commitments: the magnetic moment window, the batch-to-batch spread, and the grinding tolerance held on the two working faces. Each firing batch is backed by a tested magnetic moment figure and a recorded reject rate, giving your incoming inspection real numbers to check against. The same sampling plan supports replacement orders for customers whose earlier batches showed flux drift, restoring consistent output on the driver line.
