Neodymium Countersunk Magnet

Neodymium magnets, commonly known as NdFeB magnets, are a kind of high performance rare earth permanent magnet which constructed from an alloy of Neodymium, Boron, and Iron.

Introduction

Neodymium countersunk magnet is a functional type of magnet ring with one end surface show as a standard ring, but the other end surface has an angled countersunk hole. It is normally measured by the outer diameter, through hole diameter, major diameter, depth, and angle. The angle generally being 90 degrees. Its countersunk hole provides a convenient way to fix the magnets onto both magnetic and non-magnetic surface securely using a matching standard countersunk screw. Almost entirely of Neodymium countersunk magnets are magnetized along its axial axis. In addition, countersunk hole is also available in Neodymium block magnet and Neodymium arc magnet.

Neodymium countersink magnets are usually used together with screws. Countersink magnets are divided into single hole and multi hole, and their shapes can also be divided into circular countersink magnets, square countersink magnets and tile countersink magnets (or magnets with holes); Generally, the size of counterbore is represented by capital letter D, d1 represents the diameter of counterbore, d2 represents the aperture of inner hole, and H represents the thickness; Why are counterbores made? Because it is used together with the screw, when installing the screw, considering the beauty and safety, and protecting the magnet from damage (the strong magnet is not iron, relatively brittle and easy to break), it is designed into a funnel shape.

Machining Process

As a type of hard and brittle cermet material, sintered Neodymium magnet is criticized by its machinability, hence there are only cutting, grinding, and drilling can be applied to its machining process in traditional machining technology. Hole Machining process includes both through hole and countersunk hole. Countersunk hole should be processed on the basis of through hole. In order to ensure concentricity between through hole and the countersunk hole, workpiece is required to be fixed accurately during the machining process of the countersunk hole.

The processing technology of neodymium countersunk magnets is basically the same as that of other neodymium iron boron magnets, except for the following steps:

Center drilling: A center hole is drilled into the magnet in the location where the countersunk hole will be. The center hole is used as a reference point for creating the countersunk hole.

Countersinking: The countersunk hole is then created using a countersink bit or end mill. The size and depth of the countersink will depend on the specific requirements of the application.

Chamfering: After the countersunk hole is created, the edges of the magnet around the hole are chamfered to remove any sharp edges and provide a clean, smooth finish.
