1. About Hongyu / Company & Capability
Q: Who is Shenzhen Hongyu Magnetic Industry Co., Ltd.?
A: We are a Chinese rare-earth magnet manufacturer founded in 2005, with our own factories (Dongguan, Huizhou and Ningbo) and an in-house export team. Material processing, sales and shipping are all handled domestically by us, so you deal directly with the factory.
Q: What is your main product?
A: Our focus is sintered neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) strong magnets, grades N35 to N52. We also produce bonded NdFeB, permanent ferrite, samarium cobalt, alnico and flexible rubber magnets, plus magnetic assemblies such as pot magnets, fishing magnets and magnetic wheels/couplings.
Q: Do you accept custom orders made to our drawing?
A: Yes. Most of our business is custom. Send us a drawing (or a sample photo with key dimensions) and we produce blocks, discs, rings, arcs and machined parts to your specification.
Q: Which industries do you serve?
A: Permanent motors, new-energy and wind power, industrial automation, consumer electronics, audio speakers, medical devices, sensors and instruments, magnetic separation and everyday holding/closure applications.
Q: Do you export worldwide?
A: Yes. We ship directly from China to more than 50 countries in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa, and our export team communicates in English throughout.
Q: How do we contact you and how fast do you reply?
A: You can reach us by email, WhatsApp/WeChat or the contact form on our website. During business hours we normally reply within one working day.
2. Requesting a Quotation (RFQ)
Q: What information do you need to give an accurate quotation?
A: Ideally: 1) magnetic material / grade (e.g. NdFeB N35-N52, ferrite, rubber magnet);
2) size (a drawing is best);
3) magnetization direction;
4) surface coating (default nickel-plated);
5) working temperature (default below 80 C);
6) quantity;
7) trade term EXW or FOB;
8) shipping address, zip code and phone number. With these we can quote precisely.
Q: Can I just send a drawing?
A: Yes - a drawing is the best starting point. A 2D (PDF/DWG) or 3D (STEP) file showing the critical dimensions is ideal. If you cannot send one, a clear photo with measurements also works.
Q: What if I do not know which grade I need?
A: No problem. Tell us the application, the size available and roughly how much holding force you need, and our engineers will recommend a suitable material and grade.
Q: How quickly will you quote?
A: For standard parts we usually return a quotation within 1-2 working days of receiving your drawing and details.
Q: Is your price EXW or FOB?
A: We quote EXW (Shenzhen/China factory) by default because it is simplest and cheapest. FOB is also available if you need us to deliver to a Chinese port. If you have your own freight forwarder in China, that works best for you.
Q: Do you provide free samples?
A: Standard-size samples are normally free; you only cover the courier cost. Custom or specially magnetized samples may carry a small tooling/handling fee that can be credited against a later order.
Q: Do you need my shipping details before quoting?
A: For an EXW quote we do not need them. If you want us to arrange shipping, please give us the delivery address, zip code and phone number so we can include the freight.
3. Neodymium (NdFeB) Magnets - Grades & Properties
Q: What is a neodymium (NdFeB) magnet?
A: Neodymium (NdFeB) is the strongest commonly available permanent magnet, made from an alloy of neodymium, iron and boron. It is usually nickel-plated and delivers a very high holding force for its small size.
Q: Which NdFeB grades do you supply?
A: Our standard range is N35 through N52. The number indicates the magnetic strength - the higher the number, the stronger the magnet for the same size.
Q: How do I choose the right grade?
A: Choose the highest grade your budget and space allow. If size is limited, go higher (e.g. N48-N52) for more force; if size is generous, a mid grade (e.g. N35-N42) is more economical. Tell us your duty and we will advise.
Q: What is the strongest magnet you offer?
A: In our NdFeB range, N52 is the highest standard grade we supply.
Q: What is the difference between NdFeB, ferrite and rubber magnets?
A: NdFeB is the strongest but needs plating and costs more; ferrite is weaker, ceramic, uncoated and the cheapest; rubber (flexible ferrite) is the weakest but bendable and low-cost. Choose NdFeB when you need maximum force in a small space.
Q: What shapes are available?
A: Blocks (square/rectangular), discs, rings, cylinders, arcs/segments, spheres and custom shapes, including parts with holes, countersinks and slots.
Q: Can you make very small or very large magnets?
A: Yes. We produce miniature parts for electronics as well as large blocks and segments. Both the minimum and maximum size depend on the shape and grade - send us your target dimensions.
Q: Are the magnets shipped already magnetized?
A: Normally yes, we ship fully magnetized. If your design needs them unmagnetized (for example to ease assembly or handling of very strong parts), just tell us.
Q: How much holding / pull force can I expect?
A: Pull force depends on grade, size, the steel it contacts, contact area and thickness. As a rule, a small N52 block can hold many times its own weight. Share your application and we will estimate a realistic figure.
Q: Can a weakened or demagnetized magnet be re-magnetized?
A: Yes, a NdFeB magnet that has lost strength can usually be re-magnetized with a proper pulse magnetizer. We can supply magnets pre-magnetized or magnetize your returned parts on request.
Q: Are neodymium magnets brittle?
A: Yes. NdFeB is a hard, brittle ceramic-like material. Two magnets can chip or crack if allowed to slam together, and the magnets should not bear mechanical load. Design with fixtures/adhesives and handle with care.
Can I glue, solder or weld a neodymium magnet? You can bond magnets with epoxy-type adhesives. Soldering and welding are not practical because the metal plating does not wet well and the heat can damage the magnet. Use mechanical fixing or adhesive instead.
4. Customization & Machining
Q: Can you produce exactly to my drawing?
A: Yes. We manufacture sintered or bonded NdFeB to your drawing, including tight-fit geometries, and grind parts to the dimensions you specify. Send the drawing and we will confirm feasibility with the quotation.
Q: What secondary operations can you do?
A: Cutting, grinding, drilling, countersinking, slotting, wire-cutting and deburring, followed by coating and magnetization. Just mark the features on your drawing.
Q: Do you supply finished magnetic assemblies?
A: Yes. Beyond raw magnets we offer rubber-coated pot magnets, fishing/salvage magnets and magnetic wheels & couplings, and can assemble to your design.
Q: Can you help with design or selection?
A: Of course. Send your application and constraints and our engineers will suggest material, grade, shape and magnetization that give the best balance of performance and cost.
5. Magnetization
Q: Which magnetization directions do you offer?
A: Axial, diametrical, through-thickness, and multipole or radial arrays. Custom pole patterns are available to drawing.
Q: How do I specify the magnetization on a drawing?
A: Mark the magnetized faces and, where relevant, the number of poles and the pole sequence. A simple sketch or a note such as 'magnetized through thickness' is enough for us to confirm.
Q: Can you magnetize multipole or Halbach ring arrays?
A: Yes. We produce multipole rings, arc segments and Halbach-type assemblies for motors, sensors and couplings, magnetized with dedicated fixtures.
Q: How can I identify the North and South poles?
A: We can mark the poles on request, and we ship with the polarity shown on the drawing. A simple compass or a pole-detection check also identifies the poles.
Q: Does magnetization affect price or lead time?
A: Standard magnetization is included in the price. Unusual multipole or large-format fixtures may add a small tooling fee and a few days.
6. Coating & Corrosion
Q: What is the standard coating for NdFeB?
A: Nickel-Copper-Nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni), which is our default bright metallic finish and suits most applications.
Why do neodymium magnets need coating? NdFeB contains iron and corrodes easily when exposed to moisture. The coating seals the surface, protects against rust and gives a clean appearance.
What other coatings are available? Zinc (clear/blue/black), nickel, gold, silver, copper and epoxy (including black epoxy), plus PTFE for special environments. Choose based on appearance, corrosion needs and compatibility.
Q: Which coating is best for outdoor or humid use?
A: Epoxy and nickel-based coatings offer strong corrosion protection for demanding or humid environments. Tell us the working environment and we will recommend the coating.
Q: Does coating reduce the magnetic strength?
A: No. A typical coating is only a few microns thick and has negligible effect on magnetic performance.
Q: Can you supply uncoated magnets?
A: Rarely for NdFeB because of corrosion; but for materials like ferrite, SmCo or Alnico that resist corrosion naturally, an uncoated finish is normal and cost-effective.
7. Working Temperature & Applications
Q: What working temperature should we assume by default?
A: Unless you tell us otherwise, we quote for standard nickel-plated NdFeB used in ordinary conditions, up to about 80 C. Please confirm if your application runs hotter.
Q: My application involves higher temperatures - can you help?
A: Yes. Please describe the actual temperature profile and usage conditions, and we will assess the appropriate material case by case, including any export documentation your side may need.
Q: Where are NdFeB magnets typically used?
A: Permanent motors, sensors, speakers, magnetic fixtures and jigs, phone/laptop accessories, closures, jewelry, magnetic therapy, and DIY projects.
8. Samples, MOQ & Lead Time
Q: How long does it take to get samples?
A: Samples are typically ready in about 10 working days, depending on the complexity and the coating.
What is the mass-production lead time? Around 20-25 days after order confirmation, depending on the quantity and machining involved. We will confirm the exact date on the quotation.
Q: What is your MOQ?
A: There is no strict MOQ for standard sizes - trial orders are welcome. For fully custom shapes, the MOQ depends on tooling and coating batch and is confirmed with the quotation.
Q: Do you keep standard sizes in stock?
A: We keep a range of common grades and standard dimensions in stock for quicker delivery. Custom parts are produced to order.
Q: Can you handle rush orders?
A: For simple parts with standard coating, we can often speed up sampling and production. Let us know your deadline and we will confirm what is feasible.
Q: Do you send progress updates during production?
A: Yes. For larger orders we can share production photos or a short status report at key stages such as sintering, machining, coating and magnetization.
9. Packaging & Shipping
Q: How are strong magnets packaged?
A: Neodymium and other strong magnets use dedicated magnetic shielding packaging: steel keep-off plates / shunts between magnet layers and outer boxes engineered to keep the surface field within air-freight limits.
Q: Why does shipping need special packaging?
A: Air cargo treats magnets as 'magnetic material' and limits the surface field. Shielding packaging keeps the outside field below the airline limit so the parcel can be accepted for air freight.
Q: Will magnets in transit damage my electronics?
A: Properly shielded packaging keeps the field contained. Still, keep shipments and stored magnets away from phones, credit cards, hard drives, watches and pacemakers.
Q: Can you ship by air, sea or international express?
A: Yes. We arrange DHL/FedEx/UPS express for samples and small orders, and air or sea freight for bulk shipments. We can also ship to your forwarder in China.
Q: Do you have a freight forwarder, or should I provide one?
A: Both work. If you have your own forwarder in China (the best option), we simply deliver the goods to them. If not, we will quote the freight with our partner forwarders on request.
Q: Which Incoterms do you offer?
A: EXW is our default (China factory / warehouse). FOB Shenzhen, CIF and DDP are available on request for specific markets.
Q: Do you handle export documents?
A: Yes. We provide the commercial invoice, packing list and, where applicable, a certificate of origin. For customs declaration of magnets we work with experienced brokers and forwarders.
Q: How should I receive and store the goods?
A: Check outer cartons for damage on arrival. Store the cartons flat, keep the shielding plates in place, and separate magnets carefully - never let them slam together.
10. Payment & Order Terms
Q: What payment method do you accept?
A: We accept T/T (bank transfer).
Q: What are the payment terms?
A: Payment is 100% in advance. Once an order is confirmed we immediately begin sintering and prepare all materials through to the finished magnet, so full payment is required before production starts.
Q: Which currencies do you accept?
A: US dollars (USD) and Chinese yuan (RMB) are our usual currencies. Other currencies on request.
Q: Are there tooling or sample charges?
A: Standard sizes usually carry no tooling fee. Special shapes, fixtures or magnetization molds may need a one-off tooling charge; this is quoted upfront and often refundable against a mass order.
Q: How long is the quotation valid?
A: Typically 15 days. Raw-material prices (especially rare earths) can move quickly, so for later orders we may need to refresh the price.
11. Handling, Storage & Safety
Q: How should I store magnets?
A: Keep them in a dry, room-temperature place, away from moisture, heat sources and children. Store magnets separated by the shielding plates in the box, and keep them flat so they do not slam together.
Q: Are strong magnets safe to handle?
A: Handle with care. Large NdFeB magnets can pinch skin and fingers, shatter if allowed to slam together, and can harm pacemakers, cards and electronics. Keep them away from anyone with a pacemaker and from children.
Q: Can I drill or cut a neodymium magnet myself?
A: We do not recommend it. NdFeB is very hard and brittle and produces sparks and dust when machined without the right tools. Please order parts with the required features machined at our factory.
Q: How do I separate two stuck-together magnets?
A: Slide them apart laterally on a firm surface rather than pulling them directly apart, and use a wooden or plastic wedge. Never force with bare fingers in the gap.
Q: Do magnets lose strength over time?
A: A properly used NdFeB magnet loses very little strength over decades. Avoid high temperatures, strong reverse fields, impacts and corrosion - these are the real causes of demagnetization.
12. After-Sales, Support & Returns
Q: What if parts arrive demagnetized or damaged?
A: If there is any issue, please send photos and a short description within 7 days of arrival. Our dedicated staff will liaise with the logistics carrier to confirm, and after assessment we will re-ship, re-magnetize or refund accordingly.
Q: What is your return policy?
A: Custom parts made to your drawing are normally not returnable unless there is a quality issue on our side. For standard stock items, please contact us within 7 days of arrival for RMA guidance.
Q: How do you handle quality issues?
A: We work with you to find the root cause (material, machining, coating, use environment) and propose a remedy - remake, re-magnetize, credit, or design adjustment for the next batch. Our goal is a long-term partnership.
Q: How do I reach after-sales support?
A: Use the same channel through which you placed the order - email, WhatsApp or WeChat - and our sales/engineering team will pick up within one business day.
